If no username is supplied, it will default to an uppercase version of the environment variable USER or LOGNAME in that order. I'm assuming marc is the user on Ubuntu? Does the Mac also have a user called marc too? Smbclient -L MacBook-Air-van-Marc.local -U I avoid those & have not tested it.ĭo you need to suggest a username with smbclient? e.g.
The reason I suggested using a user account with a password is because I'm not certain how well guest logins work over SMB on Macs. If the exact same error messages persist with the IP you know that Ubuntu is finding the server but the SMB protocol is choking or failing for some reason. Bonjour is basically DNS on the local network that works by broadcasting service info (apologies if you know all this already). If the IP works & the local name does not you will need to investigate bonjour on Ubuntu. Have you tried connections only using the IP address? rendezous, zeroconf, avahi, multicast DNS - it has had many names). local address in the first command that fails & the IP in the second that works. But I want to solve this strange samba-puzzle. It does not ruin my life! I installed SSH/SFTP protocol and that works perfectly in both directions between mac and ubuntu. I do not know is the developers are aware of this issue? Neither works! The login window disappears and reappears endlessly! I get the choice of login in as a registered user, with password, or "anonymously", without password. On the graphical plain: when I use the gui in "nautilus" (graphical file-manager in ubuntu)to log in, I get this window: So: why is there that: "NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE"? Nevertheless it can contact the mac, as the "nmblookup" command shows: Session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE WARNING: The "syslog" option is deprecated $ smbclient -L MacBook-Air-van-Marc.local When I tried to connect from the cli, I got the following answer:
Here, on the mac, I have no way to find out where this "mysterious modified samba-implementation" is hidden, not to say: configure it.Īnd I can dance a sensual samba with it, thanks to the ubuntu-server! ?Īs I pointed out: I can log into the shared folder on my ubuntu machine from my mac. It's very elegant and handy.īut one must learn to accept the commercial limitations. When my old Asus-laptop broke down, I decided to buy a mac. On the other hand: I'm enjoying using the mac-notebook. (Again: why is there no nf file anymore? That's weird.) I get the impression that apple is more or less abandoning the samba-project. The things I have been reading - concerning this "modified samba implementation"- tell me that the situation has changed.
Mine: ubuntu 16.04 (samba-server installed), Mac OS 10.13.2Īlthough I allowed "guest" the way you showed me, the login window does not give me a choice between "anonymous" and "user-password".
I do not recall if Ubuntu autodetects the 32bit efi boot, and installs grub-ia32, or if you need to install it via apt manually. Is the samba-server installed on the ubuntu? Let me know if it works, I’m only recalling this from memory. Copy BOOTIA32.efi to EFI/BOOT (where youll also see BOOTX64) and grubia32.efi to EFI/ubuntu Once restored, open the EFI partition (mount partition 1 via gnome disks or /sbin/mount) and go to EFI/BOOT.
iso is specifically prepared to allow EFI boot. Do not use rufus or the like! Those alter the partition layout.
Unfortunately, the MacPro<3,1 generation only has a 32bit efi unlike mine, so what you’ll need to do is as follows: But on principle, EFI 1.1 will boot UEFI binaries just fine. To be fair, I (somewhat?) cheated, I netboot iPXE.efi and have that load vmlinuz and initrd off the network, and nfsroot. I have Ubuntu 20.04 running on an Xserve2,1 (=MacPro3,1) with native EFI boot.
